With four West Norfolk teams heading to finals the Norfolk Rugby’s Big Weekend in Diss on the May Bank Holiday weekend, it was a busy day for our Club Officials and supporters to get round all the matches!
The Women were playing in a round robin format against both Wymondham and Diss, the Boys U14s were also due to face Wymondham in their Cup game, whilst the Boys U16 were up against Diss & the Boys U15s vs. North Walsham in their Plate finals.
Unfortunately, the U15 were beaten by North Walsham but brought all the passion that had been seen from them all season, with Coach Kevin Foley saying “It wasn’t to be today; we met a well-drilled team who gave us lots to think about next year”
The U14s fought hard against a dominant Wymondham Team who took an early lead and ultimately, didn’t look back.
U16 Coach Alex Harrison took a well-drilled team to Diss, looking to reward this season’s hard training with some silverware. Playing the hosts, the West Norfolk boys earnt a well-deserved victory, with strong forwards plays from the pack, in addition to effective moves from the backs too, seeing the final score with West U16s 31-13 Diss.
The final matches of the day to be played were the senior Women’s squads, with representation from Wymondham, Diss and West Norfolk.
Old adversaries were up first with Wymondham taking to the pitch against West, and after settling the nerves, West started to command the play and get the tries going. Final score; Wymondham 5:24 West Norfolk. Then came Diss, where West were now warmed up and raring to go – running in try after try, final score: West Norfolk 45:5 Diss. The final match score: Diss 20:7 Wymondham.
