“…and the RFU’s Volunteer of the Year – Game for All category is Ellen Collison”

Once more the RFU has partnered with Honda to recognise the people that come together and make grassroots rugby possible – the Volunteers

With over 2,000 people nominated this year alone for the contributions that they have made to grassroots rugby, the Regional winners were then invited to a special day at Twickenham on Friday 21st August to thank them for all their hard work. After messages from the Red Roses and a talk from James Haskell, the attendees had an access-all-areas tour of Rugby HQ before it was on to the Black Tie dinner in the evening.

Those attending shared inspirational stories and ideas on how to grow our sport, whilst being hosted by Rugby’s top leaders. Ellen was nominated in the ‘Game for All’ Category, reflecting the immense amount of work that she puts into the Girls section at West Norfolk, alongside managing to Coach the Under 10s AND play for the Women ‘s 1st XV squad too. The judges were impressed by the school initiatives Ellen had arranged and the growth in the girl’s section, welcoming girls from all backgrounds and sporting experience – and by winning the Fair Play award from the Leicester Tigers, her focus on putting the core Rugby values at the heart of everything she does was visibly demonstrated.

The wine flowed and phone numbers were swapped, and whilst it’s fair to say that Ellen wasn’t thrilled in having to speak in front of hundreds of people she did love meeting Alex Payne and sharing rugby (and football) stories with the RFU future president, Deborah Griffin.

We are very proud of you Ellen, thank you for everything you do for West Norfolk – Have a great Centenary Year and 24/25 Season!

If you are interested in being an Ellen v2.0, we need you! Please message Amy McHenry on volunteers@westnorfolkrugby..com to learn more about the roles available and joining our amazing team of volunteers at the Club.
