U10s head to Welford Road for the Tiger’s U10 Cup

West Norfolk’s U10 squad travelled to Wymondham RFC on 20 October 2024 to take part in annual Tiger’s U10’s Cup, previously known as the Prima Tiger Cup and Tiger Cup. This long-standing recognition of rugby values in Mini and Youth age grades rewards those teams who show positive behaviours and attitudes towards the game, the referee and their fellow players, is celebrating its 30th season in 2023/24 – making it older than both the Gallagher Premiership and the Investec Champions Cup.

The team played four games against other regional squads and the Tigers Coaches assessed the sides on their TREDS (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship) values and behaviours, both on and off the pitch. With outstanding play and behaviour clearly on display, West’s U10s were chosen to go to Welford Road and take to the pitch before the Premiership fixture between Tigers and Quins on April 26th, 2025.

Celebrating with the team, West’s U10s Coaching team were approach by the Tigers coaches and told that “The quality of play, and the commitment to the core values was exemplary across the board, so a huge well done to all players, coaches and supporters who were involved in the day. This is what the TU10 Cup is all about.”

Huge congratulations go to all the players, families and coaches who have worked so hard to demonstrate the very best parts of rugby, playing the game and living the values. This squad follows in the footsteps of current Tigers superstars Freddie Steward and Jack van Poortvliet, who both took part in this very festival for their childhood clubs and had their first experience of playing at the home of Leicester Tigers through the TU10 Cup.

West’s Minis Festival takes club by storm

West Norfolk welcomed a huge number of younger players and their passionate supporters to Gatehouse Lane early on an autumnal Sunday morning, with over 600 players – ranging in ages from U7 to U12 – from nine Norfolk and regional clubs coming to the club to play 115 games of rugby and truly demonstrate how much growth there is in this sport.

The core rugby values were very much on show from all the youngsters playing, with teamwork, respect and enjoyment evident for everyone to see and appreciate. Games were fast-paced and rolled seamlessly from one into the other across all the pitches that had been set up, with coaches from each team getting stuck in to both refereeing and supporting their squad, and other fleets of volunteers helping to ensure that there was plenty of food and drink on hand for all.

Ben Jones, Chair of Minis & Youth said: “This has been a fantastic festival for all these players and their families, with perfect weather and an amazing group of volunteers who have helped make it all run smoothly. I’d especially like to thank to the U13s parents and Senior men for their help. We couldn’t deliver these experiences without this support.”

West Norfolk would like to thank the following clubs for coming to the grounds and taking part in the day: Norwich Rugby Club, Crusaders Rugby Club, Holt RFC, Diss RFC, Wisbech RUFC, March Bears Rugby Club, Fakenham RUFC and Swaffham RUFC.
